French Teacher of the Year
2019 - 2020
No awardee due to the pandemic
The 2019-2020 school year was incredibly challenging. The rapid emergence of a new virus, which quickly spread from a regional epedemic to a global pandemic, forced schools across Minnesota to close their doors in March. Teachers were given just three weeks to transition their curricula to an online format. The uncertainty surrounding how to effectively teach and learn in a virtual environment caused anxiety for many, leading to long hours of overtime and a level of exhaustion and fear that most had never encountered before. On top of this, teachers grappled with personal concerns about their own safety, as well as the well-being of their families, friends, and students. It was difficult but we did it and we continue today to teach our students about the importance of a global education through language and cultural learning.
In light of these unprecedented challenges, we felt that there was no single "Teacher of the Year" — rather, every teacher deserved recognition as the Teacher of the Year.
